Songwriters in the Round

Come join the fun at Café Zing on November 4th. We are cooking with gas in the fall iteration of Songwriters in the Round, bringing you hot new artists as well as mellow faves. This week is no different. We welcome newcomer Kat Reinhert, up from NYC, who is in the midst of releasing singles from her brand new EP record. Will she perform her more rockin’ stuff or her traditional-style murder ballad? Come to find out! Paul Hansen of the Grownup Noise will be there too. He was just nominated as best Alt/Indie Act of the Year at the 2026 Boston Music Awards. Boston-based Nora Meier is building a career as a performing songwriter one brick at a time, touring in clubs and house shows up and down the east coast, including at the legendary club The Bitter End. WBUR calls her music “profoundly human and confessional.” Sounds about right. Hard not to get through a Nora show without welling up. And David Thorne Scott will be hosting and singing and playing piano.

Where: The show will be held “after hours” at the new and improved Café Zing in Porter Square.
When: 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (the café will be closed for cleaning and staff turnover from 7:00 - 7:30)
They will have all their amazing teas and coffees (and decafs!) in addition to their Iggy’s sandwiches and their legendary Vietnamese rolls. One roll is a snack. 3 is a meal! https://www.cafezingcambridge.com/menu

Songwriters in the Round is a warm, welcoming event where people can enjoy food and drink as well as chance meetings and conversation. But everyone becomes quiet when four songwriters take the stage to take turns playing songs, occasionally joining each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. In between songs, the audience listens while the performers discuss music and life in general. “I was inspired by the ‘guitar pulls’ of the Bluebird Café in Nashville,” host David Thorne Scott says, “but with a wider variety. There is folk and country, but also rock, R&B, soul, jazz, and musical theater.”

Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

We perform at different venues — don’t miss out! Sign up for the email list at http://eepurl.com/c2gNWf for the latest communication.

You might hear a young up-and-coming pro, an established mid-career performer and mentor, and a cherished elder of the scene -- all sharing music. The growing relationships will warm your heart and enrich your soul. Come every week as the lineup shifts and new friends are made.

All ages welcome.

Our songwriters this week

Paul Hansen of The Grownup Noise is an old songwriter on the Boston scene who is just really happy to be alive and still playing shows. Also, his band The Grownup Noise has recently reunited and is up for a 2026 Boston Music Award for best Alt/Indie act of the year. So that's fun! https://www.thegrownupnoise.com/

Seamlessly melding together jazz, folk and pop influences, Kat Reinhert captivates listeners with her inventive original music and insightful storytelling. A joyful and evocative singer, her writing is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, Sara Bareilles and John Mayer. Her 2021  album, Dead Reckoning, described as, “raw, engaging and brilliant,” takes you on a heart journey of self-discovery through loss, anxiety, and a resolution to walk into the joy of the unknown following a dream. Since then, she has released four independently produced singles and a fully solo produced EP, Normal, with a second EP, Other People’s Stories, dropping in November 2026. Kat has appeared alongside such noted artists as Raul Midon, David Cook, Jo Lawry, Shayna Steele, Matt Aronoff, James Shipp, Julia Adamy and Ross Pederson. Reinhert currently resides in New York City.  https://www.katreinhert.com

Nora Meier is a diehard music fan, a frequent moviegoer, a daughter of two English majors, an Oregonian at heart, a verbal processor, a big reader, extremely stubborn, and always writing. She was raised on her dad’s curated mixtapes and epic vinyl collection, which cultivated her deep love for the format of The Album and an obsession with Bruce Springsteen. Her debut album, Outfield, was released in October of 2024. It was born during a full moon / lunar eclipse on a farm in Connecticut with the help of some of her favorite musicians. Eleven songs were tracked in seven days, interspersed by basketball scrimmages, deli trips and walks around a big field. The album was produced and mixed by Charles Dahlke (The Brazen Youth) and mastered by Andrew Goldring. Nora lives in Boston, Massachusetts. https://www.norameiermusic.com/

Your host, David Thorne Scott, is a singer and songwriter in jazz and Americana styles. A longtime resident of Somerville, he organized Songwriters in the Round to foster a creative, dynamic music scene here. He believes that music can bring a community together like nothing else. “At a time of great conflict in our country – when words often fail us – music has the power to bridge divides... David Thorne Scott explores the intersection of Jazz and Americana, city and country, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying, and healing, in their beauty.” - Laurie Fanell, Eponymous Review www.davidthornescott.com
